Oak Leaf Psychotherapy

Change through insight

Welcome!

Welcome to Oak Leaf Psychotherapy. We hope you will find our website helpful in giving you information about who we are, the work we do and how we may be able to help and support you.

What is psychotherapy?

As defined by the UK Council for Psychotherapy,

  • Psychotherapy aims to help clients gain insight into their difficulties or distress, establish a greater understanding of their motivation, and enable them to find more appropriate ways of coping or bring about changes in their thinking
    and behaviour.

  • Psychotherapy involves exploring feelings, beliefs, thoughts and relevant events, sometimes from childhood and personal history, in a structured way with someone trained to help you do it safely.
A psychotherapist provides a professional, therapeutic relationship in a safe, non-judgemental, containing and confidential space so that people can gain greater insight and a fuller understanding of themselves, and thereby promote personal growth and development. Each psychotherapist has consulting rooms in London Bridge, Hornsey and South Woodford. They can be reached from Central London, East London, North London and Essex.

Painful feelings and difficulties can be explored and worked through in a constructive way with the therapist. These feelings can be found to have their origins in past life experiences and/or day to day life.

Within a supportive and trusting relationship and through a process of listening, talking and engaging, psychological processes and counselling can be used to understand difficult feelings and problems – such as relationships, stress and depression – by talking openly, utilising memories, feelings and dreams and using interpretations so that awareness and understanding of these is deepened. People can be helped towards coming to terms with, changing or lessening current issues or problems.
